Not bad, but prefer the full length books instead

These were obviously written before the full length Diana Tregarde books came out, and having read them first, I wasn't overly thrilled with these short stories. Don't get me wrong, still great reads, but you can tell that the characters weren't "finished" yet for lack of a better term.

I really hope the author decides to start writing this series again. Loved the books and characters as much as her Valdemar series.

Any Tregarde fan should enjoy this

Comments on "Killer Byte" would also apply to another Tregarde short, "Satanic, Versus." First, I love any kind of wordplay, so the titles of these two stories were great attention-getters. Diana is my favorite Lackey character, and I wish the author would return to her universe. These two shorts are obviously early works. That, and the brevity of the stories, leave the characters a little under-developed. However, while it might help to know Diana from the novels, these stories work equally well as stand-alones. I would recommend both "Killer Byte" and "Satanic, Versus" not just to Lackey fans, but to anyone who enjoys fiction dealing with witchcraft and the supernatural.

3.5 *'s - This is not a bad short story but it's really only for die-hard Di fans. The length of the work isn't conducive to character development and barely has enough time for plot development. If I didn't love all things Lackey and Tregarde, I probably would have been disappointed by this.

I really enjoy all books by this author

I really enjoy all books by this author! They are very suspenseful and I enjoy trying to figure out who the villain is! These books are easy and quick reads for those who enjoy reading but don't have a lot of time or energy for it.

A Sweet and Suspenseful Saga

`Fatal Burn,' by Roxanne Rustand ([...]), tells the story of Kris Donaldson. She is starting a new adventure in the beautiful mountains of Montana, her place of birth. She has just inherited a piece of land from an aunt - an aunt she was not aware of prior to her death. Kris has had some rough patches in life, primarily through the ill-advised marriage of a bad seed while she was still a teenager. The choices she made - and the one he made that impacted her - continue to plague her years to this day.

Other main characters in the book are Trace and Carrie Randall, brother and sister, who live next to Kris. Trace is a cowboy, fire fighter and arson investigator - and Kris finds him to be very attractive. Carrie is a vivacious Jesus follower who allows the Holy Spirit to guide her and shine through her.

I appreciated how all of the main characters prayed when they needed guidance and illumination from God, and thanked and praised Him afterward. They heard and followed an inner voice - the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit - that never steered them wrong - and will always guide and direct us on the right path as well.

Another strong theme is the book is accepting God's forgiveness, and not getting stuck in the constant loop of replaying old sins and regrets. As stated by Trace:

"I've been so caught up in the past. Guilt. Regret. Anger at myself... I guess God was sending me a wake-up call. I always knew that He's forgiven me, but I still needed to hand all that baggage over to Him and forgive myself." (p. 209)

This is the second book in Mrs. Rustand's ([...]) `Big Sky Secrets' Trilogy. The first book is `Final Exposure'; `End Game' will be releasing in June 2010.

I found this to be a sweet - yet suspenseful - story. I look forward to learning what happens to these characters in the final book of the trilogy.

Big Sky Series by Roxanne Rustand

A red flag is raised. Kris arrives at the house, she inherited from her aunt,in
the middle of the night. It needs work and she needs money.

Everytime something happens at her place, naturally, the police suspect her.
Whoever is trying to frame or ruin her is doing a great job.
Has her past caught up with her? Will she be able to prove her
innocence before time runs out?
I wouldn't have guessed the "bad guy."
Enjoyed!

Keeps kids reading and that's fine by me!

My 9 year old son is pretty obsessed with Pokemon and has been for quite some time now. He loves all the characters and frequently plays out the battles on the backyard. He watches the shows on TV, he has the games for his gaming systems and he has over 1000 Pokemon cards. You could say he loves Pokemon. And for the most part, I’m okay with that because Pokemon doesn’t teach him about killing people or guns and drugs. Sure, it does promote having the characters “battle” and be trained by the human trainers but it’s not nearly as bad as some of the shows that are on TV today.
My son saw this book at the book fair at school and I told him I could probably find it cheaper. I did find it cheaper on Amazon and so I bought it and surprised him with it. He reads it when we’re on the way somewhere, he reads it in his room, he reads it at school… and anything to promote reading, even Pokemon, is okay in my book!
The colors on the pages are bright and vibrant. There are 64 pages of facts that my son could read over and over again. It talks about how they evolve through 3 phases and it shows detailed pictures of what they will look like. He compares what they look like in the book to what he sees on the TV and what his cards look like. He also tells me he has to have ‘this’ evolution because ‘this’ Pokemon looks so much better ‘this’ way. He cracks me up. But, he’s happy and that makes me happy. If your son or daughter is interested in Pokemon and you’re interested in promoting reading, this would be a great book for them!

Bawden (Rag Rug Inspirations, LJ 2/15/97) depicts a casual, contemporary style of soft furnishings with over 50 projects for curtains, bedcovers, cushions, and lampshades, to name a few, all without sewing a stitch. The instructions are so clearly explained and illustrated that an amateur should have no trouble following them. Both books are recommended for public libraries.
