I used the book to supplement a summer class. The review questions, case studies and appendices were great for understanding the information in each chapter.

pretty good, but some serious errors

This book is pretty good. The authors were renowned in their field. BUT...it is not that well written. Many of the explanations are too vague for a beginner. Example, the difference between Informed Consent and Expressed Consent - they do not make any effort to differentiate.
Also, it was BADLY EDITED, and has a number of errors, as does the workbook, and testbank. Some of the answers to test questions are wrong, and most are written poorly. Sometimes it will tell you 2 different answers to the same question in 2 different parts of the book. Also, the Order of Draw is very outdated, since well before the latest edition updates.
Most of the info is good, but unless you are taking a course from a great instructor who has spent a lot of time in the field, just get something else. My extremely distinguished teacher suggests "Phlebotomy Handbook: Blood Specimen Collection from Basic to Advanced (8th Edition) by Diana Garza and Kathleen Becan-McBride" (Paperback - Mar. 6, 2009)

Further history reveals that his clinical rotation did not expose him to all aspects of psychiatry, and there are major gaps in his knowledge base. His medical history is unremarkable other than a healing bruise on his right temple from wrestling a PCP-intoxicated schizophrenic to the ground. He reports some difficulty falling asleep but notes that "reading case files helps." When asked how his rotation has gone so far, the student says "fine, but I think one of the attendings has it out for me." Great review book! Very helpful on psychiatry clerkship preparing for the shelf exam. Case scenarios are similar to shelf exam style. Explanations to questions are thorough and well written. The broad range of topics is very complete, from adult to pediatric psychiatry, to pharm management and legal and ethical issues and the two complete practice exams are very useful.

Lange Q&A Psychiatry, 10th EditionSo far I have completed the first 2 Chap and believe that this is a great resource. The questions are interesting, well written, and incorporate concepts from other fields of medicine to make the clinical scenarios realistic. I recommend Lange Q&A for learning about Psychiatry,and preparing for the NBME shelf exam. Other students that took the shelf before me recommended this book in addition to World and rather than "other" popular Psych question books.

Addendum:
After completing the NBME Psych Shelf exam I believe this book was instrumental in doing well (contrary to popular belief Psych Shelf is not easy).

This book delivered on every promise!

This book was perfect for my needs. First, it is a relatively fast read, which is great because I can rarely finish books due to my busy schedule. But, this one was well-written, very interesting, short and to the point so I read it twice. Second, I learned a great deal of additional information on how a large vocabulary correlates to so many other factors in life---from happiness to career success to general well-being. The 30-day program was a great way to organize the material---I followed it to the letter, reading and reviewing those words that corresponded to the particular day I was working on. After 30 days, I did feel I had a good handle on all the new words, and then re-read it on a plane ride, just to reinforce it. I'd highly recommend this if you are interested in the topic, want something that you can fit into your schedule, and want to learn a ton of great new ideas.
