I enjoyed it.

This was a very simple book. It's a short story with at least two other installments. This is the first time that I will say I wish all three books had all been combined into one. Together, they'd be about the same length as a Harlequin romance novel.

I read another review that suggested that some of the book should have been from William's point of view. It would have been nice to see another perspective and would have given the story more meat. It's clear that this was not William's first time experiencing a man, so it would have been interesting to see his thought processes in contrast to Jake's first time.

Sadly, it also read like a rough draft. I wish the author had gotten an editor since there were a lot of grammatical errors.

It was a sweet story and I enjoyed it in spite of everything. I don't plan on buying the next two parts due to the price. I don't believe 50 pages is worth $2.99. I still think this one is worth a read if you like the genre and can ignore the drawbacks.

Simplistic but full of grammatical errors

This was an okay story, nothing really revolutionary about it though. It followed the basic guidelines of writing a story and it read like an assignment from Creative Writing 101.

I felt like all the descriptions of military manoeuvres was over done and it should have contained more emotions that Jake was going through. I thought that having William's viewpoint included would have been much better than just a constant list of Jake's insecurities and his inconsistent conflict with the protagonist, Jared.

The best part was when I thought they were going to get caught during War Games, that was suspenseful. And I thought Jared mentioning that the Leaders putting William and Jake together was their version of a love match was interesting. There was something there that should have been explored, it could have turned this story into a book with a genuine concept behind it.

Other than that this story felt generic and with all the grammatical errors it was just okay.

Disappointed

After reading and enjoying the writer's "Only for you" short story I was prepared to like this one as well. Instead I found it very lacking. The two main characters were likable but a story as short as this can not let the reader get distracted and the total inaccurate setting had me distracted from the first pages. It is obvious the author has not been through military basic training but he could have done a minimum amount of research or shown it to someone who has had the experience. It would not have taken much to have the setting a little more accurate which would make the premise of the "training exercise" a little easier to accept.

About the Author
Ricky W. Griffin serves as Distinguished Professor of Management and Blocker Chair in Business at Texas A&M. He received his Ph.D. in organizational behavior from the University of Houston. He has served as editor of the Journal of Management and as an officer in the Southwest Regional Division of the Academy of Management, the Southern Management Association, and the Research Methods Division and the Organizational Behavior Division of the Academy of Management. Dr. Griffin spent three years on the faculty at the University of Missouri (Columbia) before moving to Texas A&M University in 1981. His research interests include workplace violence, employee health and well-being in the workplace, and workplace culture. A well-respected author recognized for his organizational behavior and management research, Dr. Griffin has written many successful textbooks, including: Management, Organizational Behavior, HR, Management Skills, Introduction to Business, and International Business.

Jean Phillips is a professor of Human Resource Management in the School Labor and Employment Relations at Penn State University. Jean earned her Ph.D. in organizational behavior from Michigan State University. Jean was among the top 5% of published authors in Journal of Applied Psychology and Personnel Psychology during the 1990s, and she received the 2004 Cummings Scholar Award from the Organizational Behavior Division of the Academy of Management. Jean has served on multiple editorial boards of top journals and she has published over 30 research articles. She has authored nine books, including Strategic Staffing (3e, 2014), Organizational Behavior (2e, 2013), Human Resource Management (2013), Managing Now (2008), and the five-book Staffing Strategically (2012) series for the Society for Human Resource Management. Jean was also the founding co-editor of the Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management series for Business Expert Press. She has taught classroom and hybrid classroom/online courses in strategic human resource management, organizational behavior, staffing, and teams and leadership in the United States, Iceland, and Singapore. Her research interests focus on recruitment and staffing, leadership and team effectiveness, and linking organizational survey results to business outcomes.

Stan Gully is a professor of human resource management in the School Labor and Employment Relations at Penn State University. Stan earned his Ph.D. in industrial/organizational psychology from Michigan State University. He is a fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and has appeared on lists of most influential scholars inside and outside the Academy of Management. He has authored or co-authored numerous research articles, books, and book chapters on a variety of topics, including leadership, team effectiveness, motivation, training, strategic staffing, and recruitment. Professor Gully has won awards for his research, teaching, and service to the field, and he is serving or has served on the editorial boards of Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Organizational Behavior, and Journal of Business and Psychology. He is a founding co-editor of the OB/HRM collection of Business Expert Press. He has taught undergraduate, master's, Ph.D., and executive classes on a wide variety of topics using traditional and distance learning technologies, both domestically and globally. Professor Gully's applied work includes, but is not limited to, managing at UPS, designing leadership training programs, developing team communication interventions, evaluating predictors of salesperson effectiveness, implementing employee surveys to drive organizational success, and enhancing managerial interviewing and communication skills. His research interests revolve around health and wellness, strategic recruiting, leadership and team effectiveness, training, and organizational learning.

Immensely Helpful

This book was critical for me at a time when I needed it most. I was at crossroads, feeling unsatisfied about how my life was going, but not sure which direction to go next. Uncertainty is a terrible point to be at.

I won't say this book solved all my problems for me. That would be a lie. But, the exercises and insights gave me a whole lot of clarity and the gentle nudge I needed to keep moving forward.

The most helpful part of the book for me was the area about identifying your values. I loved this because it's not about defining a particular career or one particular goal or strength, but getting to the core of what's really important to you and then building your path upon that. It's something I just never thought of doing, like I'm sure most other people haven't. But when I did, all kinds of light-bulbs went off.

This is the book I wish I had when I was a lost and confused 17-year-old trying to figure out what to do with my life. It came a bit later, but I'll forgive the authors for that. :)

If I said that everyone could get something from this book, it wouldn't be an exaggeration. I've given away 2 copies to friends and recommended it to several others. Some people I've recommended it to were in a special moment of need and others I felt would appreciate the extra clarity.

If you're doubting getting your copy, don't. It might just be the best $10 you've spent in a long while.

Entertaining & Insightful

I picked this book up because I was familiar with Tim Brownson and enjoyed his writings.

This book is full of wit and great insights on what it means to be rich and happy.

It also makes NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) ideas and techniques more accessible and practical to apply.

There's more to success in life than how much money you make. In fact, money is a very misleading measure of success. This book shows you why that is, and how you can work towards the kind of success that truly matters.

A Culmination of Inspiration and Application = Insanely Awesome.

How to be rich is an excellent book.

I was compelled to write a review because I was shocked to see it had so few reviews. This is a tragedy considering how truly valuable this book is.

Tim and John (the authors) use their many years of real experience and research to explain in detail how to be "Happy and Rich".

The result is a book that provides inspiration and shows how we are all capapble of being "Happy and Rich".

There is 3 things this book does that allow it to apply to a very large audience.

1. The writing is very easy to digest. It is humorous, easily comprehendible and just flows very nicely
2. It is inspiring and motivating as the authors use plenty of real world examples of the "Happy and Rich" formula being applied to real life
3. It provides specific clear application for us to be "Happy and Rich".

I thoroughly enjoy reading non-fiction self-help esque books. That being said most people don't. I read a lot of books that I enjoy but would make others want to punch themselves in the face. Every once in a while I read a non-fiction book that would be interesting to virtually anybody who wants to make improvements in their lives.

This is that book! If you read this, and you don't feel inspired and ready to take action then you are screwed... Because it doesn't get much better than this.

About the Author
David B. Magleby is a Distinguished Professor of Political Science at Brigham Young University (BYU). He has been an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow as well as a Fulbright Scholar. He is recognized for his expertise on direct democracy, voting behavior, and campaign finance. Dave is also the recipient of many teaching awards, including the 1990 Utah Professor of the Year Award, the 2001 Rowman & Littlefield Award for Innovative Teaching in Political Science, and several department and university awards. He served as president of Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honor society.

Paul C. Light is the Paulette Goddard Professor of Public Service at New York University’s Wagner School of Public Service. He has worked on Capitol Hill as a senior committee staffer in the U.S. Senate and as an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow in the U.S. House of Representatives. Paul is the founding director of the Brookings Institution’s Center for Public Service and continues his research on how to invite Americans to serve their communities through public service.

Christine L. Nemacheck is an Associate Professor of Government at The College of William & Mary. Her research focuses on judicial selection and the role of the courts in a separation of powers system. Chris has received a number of awards for her teaching and research activity, including the Alumni Fellowship Award for excellence in teaching at The College of William & Mary.

Thorough but Liberal

The book is good by means of being all-encompassing and very thorough; to the point of being quite exhaustive with constant dates, names, and references.

I found it to be quite liberal though. I hoped for a neutral book about such a topic, but found that nearly every positive example was tied to liberals, and nearly every negative example was tied to conservatives. Got annoying to have such a consistent slant.

A Great one volume edition

This quite out of date Dictionary is a wonderful one volume version - great for browsing and the price is right. If you want a more current version, you'll have to spend a lot more for the 3 volume 2nd edition. It has a world of more data and cost a lot more (and technically is due for replacement). For most of my interests, this meets my needs. It is AUTHORITIVE.

Needs an update

This is a valuable jazz reference source, and a good companion book to the Penguin guide to jazz. It is particularly useful for looking up the biographies of artists that you're interested in. Less useful are the lists of jazz club venues - likely to be quite out of date by now.
What I liked especially about the dictionary, is its comprehensiveness. Artists from all continents are covered - although musicians from far-flung places (as in not-in-the-USA)are more likely to be missing. On the negative side, you'll find that the book is now out of date when it comes to contemporary musicians.
I have for example compiled a list of all artists born in African, Australia and New Zealand from the book. While a number of well-known musicians are missing, the youngest person on my list was born in 1947 - 55 years ago - not good for a book that was reviewed in 1994. One would suspect that the contemporary jazz renaissance of the 1990s is totally absent.
So in summary, this is a well-written, well edited, good reference source, but badly in need of an update. I would also enjoy more personal details about artists in the next edition.
