A focus on practical language learned in context makes Spanish accessible for the health professional.

About the Author

Patricia Rush has over 30 years of teaching experience in Spanish, the last 15 at Ventura College where she is a Spanish instructor and former Department Chair.  Her BA and MA degrees in Spanish are from California State University, Los Angeles.  She has traveled extensively throughout the Spanish-speaking world, focusing on Spain, Mexico, Costa Rica and Cuba, and has directed International Studies programs.

 

She was a coauthor on Mosaicos, 2E, Trato hecho, 2E, Spanish for Health Care and Spanish for Business.  She was awarded a LLAMA grant (Language Learning and Multimedia Applications) from IBM for the use of technology in language instruction.  In 2000 she was selected “Teacher of the Year” by the EOPS program.  She directed the Migrant Education Program in the Alhambra School District as well as the Gifted and Talented Education Program, and has served as Dean of Students and Vice Principal in charge of Curriculum.  Her administrative internship was in Vocational Education, where she developed course outlines for Spanish for Medical Personnel, Law Enforcement, Social Services, and the Workplace; she possesses a TESOL certificate for instruction in English as a Second Language.  Her various presentations on language methodology at ACTFL and CLTA (California Language Teachers’ Association) have been well received. 

 

 

Patricia Houston has been a Dean, and Department Chair of Languages at Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona. She holds a Bachelors degree from Syracuse University and a Masters from the Universidad de Las Americas in Mexico. In addition to Spanish language instruction in academic and business settings, she has been a corporate trainer for private industry and the government. Long interested in applied language studies, she was a founder of the Pima College Translation Studies Program and coauthored several language textbooks, including the Spanish At Work series. During her career as an instructor, Patricia has won a variety of teaching awards on local and national levels.

Not as described -- CD not included

I really wish I'd been more careful in reading all the reviews, but I was in a hurry. Now I'm going to have to send this book back to Amazon, and buy it at the university bookstore. Despite the description very clearly stating, "An audio CD-ROM program accompanies the student text," no CD is included. Amazon should know that when people are buying an item online, sight unseen, they need to be able to have absolute confidence that the item truly is as described. You failed big time on this one, Amazon. The description needs to be rewritten, explicitly stating that this is the main book only, and no CD is included.

"An audio CD-ROM program accompanies the student text." Not.

I ordered a new copy specifically because the description on Amazon's website says that an audio CD-ROM is included, and since I'm taking the class online, I thought it was worth the extra money to get the CD. No CD is in the book, so I'm not happy about the price for a book with no CD.

This book sucks

I'm only renting it, but the condition was pretty bad. This is not a book for beginners. There is a pre chapter before the actual first chapter that covers basics like the alphabet and numbers, but they totally switch it on you and you have to read full dialogues and articles in the first chapter on, and some exercises require you to respond with complete forming sentences!

With a good magnifying glass and context clues you can work through ...

I would give this book a 5 star rating if the printed type was darker. There are some paragraphs, words and sentences that are very hard to discern. With a good magnifying glass and context clues you can work through it. Some of the Chinese names and terms might not be understood because of the faint print. I will keep this book and I am very thankful to have it. I am actively using it in my research. Thank you Amazon.

The word needs to get out about this book!

I feel strongly that the word needs to get out about this book because it deserves more notice than it seems to be getting. The previous reviewer who likened it to the Daily 5-for-writing book was spot on. They are similar in that they both provide a framework to help you successfully manage reading/writing workshop.

The management tips are what really set this book apart from the other books. Sometimes it's the little things that can make all the difference. The book is full of those "little things" like the Quiet 10, a structure for conducting an efficient conference, what to do if kids come up to talk to you in the middle of a conference, what to do with all those "sloppy copies" at the end of the month, easy ways for kids to edit their work (spider legs and surgery!)... all this AND tons of mini-lessons to get you started.

You can use the ideas in this book whether you use Lucy Calkins, 6-traits, or have no writing program at all. I can't wait to get started on the school year so I can start writers workshop. It's been a long time since I've felt this way about writing!

She is a member of ASTM International, AATCC, TAPPI, and AAMI technical committees and an area editor of the Journal of Engineered Fibers and Fabrics.

I enjoyed the story of the recently widowed Sophie getting aboard the1800's widow's wagon in pursuit of a new life after her quite dominanthusband is killed by Indians. Sophie travels to Kansas to meet her newmail order husband, Daniel, via the widow wagon to start their new life. Daniel seems to love discipline as much as Sophie's deceased husband,much to her dismay and maybe, also to her delight! The erotic story that follows was classic Michaels with lots of butt tanning punishments andme wiggling in my seat. While I didn't feel the western aspect of thenovel added anything to the story it didn't detract either. I waspleasantly entertained throughout.

I have enjoyed Megan Michaels Service & Submission series greatly, so when I saw she had another series to offer I scooped up the chance to read it! Even though historical romance is not usually in my wheelhouse.

Sweet Romantic Erotic Tale by Megan Michaels

This takes place just after the Civil War when a group of women who lost their husbands take a covered wagon West to start over as mail order brides. After a grueling journey one woman departs the wagon in Kansas to meet and marry. This then follows the relationship between them. The storyline was well developed and the characters and dialogue were very believable as they went into the feelings and emotions. There were elements of light BDSM, spanking, romance. I'm looking forward to the next book.

SEXY AMAZING ADDICTING

Well, I have to be honest… I don’t like westerns I find them hard to get into and hard to understand with the old language… but this was totally different. The Widow Wagon blew me away. I LOVED the characters, I was able to really connect with them and really feel for them. Sophie and Daniel turned out to be an amazing couple even though they had both loved and lost before. Their chemistry just sizzled between the pages as Sophie learned that she had to obey the rules from her new husband. He would spank her and spank her until she finally learned and then she was spanked some more. This has lots of yummy spanking scenes and some super sexy scenes in the barn and a wonderful story about two people who would really do anything for each other. This was a fantastic story!
